More Granny Square Love

Just a little more granny square love today. All from a Woman's Day Special magazine, circa 1974.
First up - a nice warm cap and matching scarf:
An afghan - oh, and I want this chair swing, by the way:

What a cute top!

A handy bag made of granny squares:
And here's another afghan, blanket or bedspread with a pillow - very pretty in purple, this time:
Or, perhaps you need an afghan to keep you bundled up outdoors for your next sleigh ride?
Well, there you go!

My sister still has this magazine-- it was our mother's. I recognize that cute top, and I made the large square afghan (the girl in the hammock). I used pinks and oranges however.

Just love the cap and scarf and that top is so cute! I have always been fond of granny squares, so colorful and actually not that hard to do. (Not that I have done it in years!)
Great post. Love T

Wow, is this bringing back memories for me...thanks to an industrious mother and grandmother, I had several vests and hats of the crochet afghan and knit variety back in 7th grade ('74). I even remember making a handbag out of granny squares, with a faux leather (vinyl) bottom and a zippered top. And yes, the colors were Harvest Gold and Rust Orange...

That granny squares top in the third photo is so gorgeous and for some reason reminds me of a stained glass pattern. I would love to have that top now!

Thank you for sharing these nostalgic magazine images, one of my favorite parts of your blog.

That top is so cute! I'd definitely wear it. Wish I could find one of those out thrifting!

I'm totally crazy for all things granny square! I have a separate pinterest board for afghan ideas, lol!

A few years ago I saw a gorgeous granny square handbag sold on Anthropologie for $$$. Been looking for something similar ever since then.
